New amp
« on: March 11, 2019, 12:16:56 pm »
oi! Just finished this one. Tolex was a bitch and I'll probably never do stripes again. The blue and green switches have orange bulbs. What's the point in making them blue and green? Otherwise...pretty good I guess. My heater wiring has improved but still barely above being atrocious. I've built this amp before. The schematic is in the schematic area here. Anyways here's a few pictures.

Sweet! How do you do your decals?

Thanks guys. They're water slide decals. Ya just make your lettering in word pad and print them out on the water slide decal paper, cut them out and apply. Put about 5 coats of acrylic clear coat over it. Avoid lacquer clear coat though, it has some weird reaction with it.

Oh, one more thing; I recommend a laser printer. Ink jets have a propensity of fading when you put them in water.

Thanks! Like I said though, I'm not sure if the tolex and piping was worth the amount of aggravation and fingers glued together. :icon_biggrin:

Really nice project! Thanks for sharing.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Here are the "blue" and "green" switches. I wonder if the bulbs are replaceable?

Thanks! I'll try to get some sound clips before long. I'm still figuring out Fruity Loops. I may switch to different software. I don't really like Fruity Loops at all.

Mixcraft Acoustica is a software that's pretty easy to use and they have free demo timeframes for users to try them out.   Audacity is a free software that's OK also & easy to use.

Yeah I’ve used mixcraft for years, easy and cheap for full blown DAW. Of course cheap is relative but compared to similar full featured programs it is a heck of a deal.

Very nice build!

As for recording Tracktion DAW, has been recently released for free so you may consider it as well.

Thanks guys! I checked out those links. They look pretty good. I may just sus out the Fruity Loops. It's the signature studio version and I paid a good bit for it. I was recording on a Roland 24 track DAW and it seems like computer software is a nightmare comparatively. My music in my link below on reverb nation was recorded on the Roland. Roland is dead now. :sad2:

I've been playing around with this amp some. I've used the same OT (4.2k 40-50w) with both of these builds. This last amp is louder using the 8ohm out into a 4 ohm load. The 1st amp is louder using 4 ohms out to 4 ohm load. The only difference(s) is that the 1st OT had 2, 4, and 8 ohm taps and the new one is 4, 8, and 16. Also the new one is a Classic Tone and I believe the 1st one is generic. Is this something to do with using the center of the coil on both? Or just weird?..

Ellooo! I finished this cabinet for speakers finally. 6000 feet of piping to hide imperfections and it looks alright. Make sure your pine is absolutely not warped...or use plywood. That's ok, I'll add the leftovers to my retirement piping. I'm not used to closed back. if it's not up on my amp stand pointed to me it sounds weird. But yeah,,,sounds good. I like the 12" and 10" combination. Anyways I made 4 trips carrying this across the property for pictures and I'm almost dead. I hate piping and glue and different colors of tolex. Here's pictures

Yeah I know. One of my bandmates is supposed to come up next week and figure this Fruity Loops program out. I'll post something soon hopefully.

Don't use the 4.3k OT if anybody builds this.  6.6k is much better. Possibly 8k? I'll change it on the schematic when I get my computer sorted out.
