Late 60's early 70's Unicord Power Plus guitar amp
« on: April 28, 2019, 11:51:09 am »
Anyone remember these or have info on them?

Intergoogle search yields almost nothing about them.

Some small mention if search Univox and I have already found a couple places that mention Unicord history,
but this line of amps seems to be mostly unknown/forgotten.

Links...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Univox

https://www.vintageguitar.com/1740/univox-et-al-mersonunicord/

Some mention of the Unicord Stage line of amps, but nothing about the Power Plus series...

I have this one...

The Jensen hi freq horn is not functional, but not really needed.

Original Utah speakers sound great!
I did have to repair the surrounds on them.

Germanium transistors in the pre amps.

True harmonic vibrato, optical.

Absolutely cavernous reverb!

Really great crunch at high volume.

Some inside pics...

In the first pic, the optical vibrato is on the far left, small vertical board.

These pics are before I replaced all the electro caps...

So no one then?

 :anyone:

I realize this is mainly a tube focused forum,
but I thought maybe some old timers might recognize this amp.

I'm an old timer that has never seen that one.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Well I guess I got me a Unicorn or perhaps a Dodo bird.

I'll play it for a while and maybe move it along at some point.

When you say Univox I immediately think of a series of made in Japan analog tape delays (Google univox echo). The same units (I believe) also appeared on the market under the brand name Prévox (Google Prévox analog echo). At least in EU these units are easier to find in working conditions than the damn tapes. Build to really high quality standards. Is this the same Univox?

I don't know if it's the same...

All I know about Univox is what I find online...

On closer googling, it's the same company.
The logo on the b-group amp on that page is the same as the one on some of the tape delay units. Even further googling showed that those early units are apparently made in the US.
See this one with UL logo: https://www.gbase.com/gear/univox-ec-80a-echo-chamber-tape-delay-1971-
