Carolina Songbird schematic?
« on: August 12, 2019, 06:20:55 pm »
Is there a final & verified schematic for the CSB ? I see a lot of different layouts & schematics floating around. Im going to be putting one of these together in the near future & I want to make sure im on the right path. I know there are several different versions & im seeing some discrepancies between them. I have some good single ended iron & am wanting to build one with a kt66 or 6l6. .  . Thanks : Joe

This is my favorite Carolina SongBird SE amp. Made it for a pro musician who was in the Nashville scene for yrs and now is in Charlotte.  Here is the sound clip for the amp.  https://www.soundclick.com/html5/v4/player.cfm?songID=13752309

I think it has decent clean tone and decent bass for a small amp with a 10" speaker. Very light weight amp/cab.

I had not even seen this one. The ones I was looking at were the schematics with the overdrive, which to me are more what I was after, though I would not be opposed to building this one either, It sounds very nice. So what is the latest version of the one with overdrive?  Ive got some time before I decide which way to go.  .   Joe

OK, got it ….. you wanted a more overdriven tone.  I'd use the 8/22/2019 version.  And you can look at reply #23 where someone else built one and has a schematic, layout and BOM.

The soundclip was for a Carolina SongBird that I built to keep as much clean headroom in it as possible.

The one ive been looking at is 8/22/11 , I assume thats the one you are referring to. I saw somewhere you said you preferred it with out the negative feedback, is this still the case? Also any upfront suggestions on building this with a kt66. I see a few discrepancy's between the layout & schematic but I will address those when I get started, maybe a month or so,,  Thanks : Joe

building this with a kt66.
I think you'll like it
a suggestion, run it hot, as much B+ as you can reasonably get.
knowing your target "sound" might help.  I prefer the "tight" "ballzier" sound they have.
Went Class C for efficiency

Yes, sorry about that.  8/22/2011.     I have not had that amp for many years. Don't remember about the NFB.  I tend to not keep more then 3 amps around.  So, IF I want to get something new/different ………… something "has to go".  :icon_biggrin:

I am attaching the Layout I made for this amp and the schematic I made it from, I left out the effects loop & the negative feedback. Can you guys look it over & see if I have anything messed up / backwards etc. Is that zener diode facing the right way? Also where would it be advisable to use shielded wire on this amp? Thanks : Joe
