Microphonic pickup issue

My son and I have been building a custom body guitar.  After installing the electronics, it is extremely sensitive to any vibration, even without strings installed.   Touching or tapping the body of the guitar is transmitted directly to the amp.   Any ideas on how to approach this?   The pickup is a humbucker that came from a donor Yamaha guitar which seemed to be functioning fine before we broke it down into parts.

(FWIW: I once tried wax potting cheapo Hondo PU's; but it didn't work.)

If pickup was functioning fine on the Yamaha guitar, I can't understand why it need wax potting now.

Chance is more you have a wiring issue; a ground is missing.

Have strings been fitted to the guitar yet?

If not, do so and re-asses; it’s probably fine.

Or positive + and ground are reverse somewhere.

You might have connected the gnd from the pots to the "+" of the input jack ( or somewhere else )
