  • I love Tube amps
Please be easy on me. I'm new and need info.

V Series V50-112 50W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp

I've only used it for about 4 hours.  Then I learned this model has a bad design and breaks after not much use. I think I read the amp tries to use a class D amp with tubes, or something like that.

I read a lot on the web about a month ago, learned much, but left me just as confused.

My goal is to find out if I can do anything to this amp to make it stable and usable, before I use it much and ruin it. I haven't been using it at all so all it's doing is taking up space and being a PITA.

I don't know what to do. Is there a power supply I can replace it with that will make it stable, or perhaps change out the tubes? I'm totally guessing.  As a noob the learning curve is great for me right now.

I like the amp, but I don't know if it has a future.

It's in new excellent shape at the moment.

This listing is old, item is not avail, but has pictures of my amp and the model #, and more info

Thanks so much for reading my post

Also. There is a thread that talks about changing out the power switch in this very forum here:

Looks like good info. I still can't figure out if this is the solution or what I need to buy or do.

It looks like some versions have a switched mode power supply, others have a regular linear arrangement. Have you identified the correct schematic for your amp?
But really, so what, it is what it is, it’s working and sounding fine currently (?) so enjoy it!
When it breaks, as all things inevitably will, you have resources available to fix it.
If the prospect of that is too distressing, then sell it while it’s working great and buy something you’re happier with; it seems like smaller and lighter are key criteria for you.
But guess what? That will develop problems eventually too, so consider its fixability, including the availability of schematic and OEM parts, in your purchasing decision.
