New books from Richard Kuehnel

Guitar Amplifier Electronics: Fender Deluxe
Richard Kuehnel

I think Richard's books are getting better. This tells the technical history of the Deluxe's circuit, studies the various changes, mostly in easy prose with lots of big pictures. Really a very excellent work. IMHO.

Disclosure: I saw a pre-print and dotted a few "t"s, asked for clarification a couple places. He also used an old graph I had handy.

For me, a welcome change from a focus on complex math formulas!

Paul,

How does this book compare with his book on the Bassman 5F6-A? Is it a "5E3" version of his previous book, or is it something more along the line of Merlin Blencowe's style?

Richard had two editions of 5F6A? One super math, one a little more accessible. Not like those at all.

Not Merlin either, but perhaps a similar easy style and content.

I only know of the 5F6-A book that is heavy on math. I like Merlin's style, though, because he does a very good job of using the math and graphs to explain the concepts he discusses.  I'm interested in building a 5E3, so a good book about the amp would be of interest.

New this week:

Similar to Deluxe, his latest is a point-by-point romp through Leo Fender's several Bassman circuits. Leo threw a lot of ideas against the wall. Some sucked. Some stuck.

Still in the shrink-wrap:

For your winter reading...

Kuehnel has branched beyond the classics to study the Soldano SLO. There are no new concepts here, but the SLO does a few things differently, and notably the engineering around the Effects Loop. (It appears that Soldano had to tweak this from the prototypes.)
