Single triode for phase invertor?

My next build will basically be a 5E3 single input with champ pre amp, 5F2A tone and 6l6gc's for output...

I don't think I need 1/2 of the ax7 for gain so can I just use a single triode tube?  I know some of the single's
Will have diodes but I think I can tie them to ground or the cathode.

I am not that good at that stuff sir.....all I can tell you is basically it will be a 5F2A front end with 5E5 back half...it will be done on a robinette 5E3 turret board...single input, both sides of V1 as pre amp then into the PI and then to the power tubes.

I don't have any 6J5's......I do have a handful of new or strong testing.....6SF5's 6AV6's 6SR7's 6SQ7's and even some loctals...can't remember
If all those are triode's but I have a bunch put in a box together marked triode.

I want something that will sound different from all the 12ax 12ay 12au amps that I have now...

I want something that will sound different from all the 12ax 12ay 12au amps that I have now...

A 12AX7, 12AY7, 12AT7 and 12 AU7 will also sound more of less the same when used as a single triode phase splitter, as will any other triode. A single triode phase splitter = 'a cathodyne'. Cathodynes are unity gain, and if properly set up, have no distortion between input and output signals, because its sole purpose is inversion of the signal phase. So therefore, they will all 'sound' the same all other things being equal. (12AT7s and 12AU7s offer more potential for high current drivers - depending on the load resistance that you adopt and the impedance bridging between the cathodyne and the output tube grids).
