Sluckey's Smoky whith paralleled pentode at input
« on: September 28, 2021, 05:32:29 pm »
Assuming you wont to reporpose Sluckey's Smoky L'il Toaster with 3 paralleled 5654/6AK5 tubes as input and drive with them a TMB ToneStack

which will be your way to parallel the input ?

Many Thanks

Franco

Franco,

On the Tweed Overdrive Special that DaGeezer and I worked on many years ago,  we both tried paralleling a 5879 & 5654 or 6AU6 in the first gain stage.

I had a 5879 9pin socket and a 7pin socket for the 5654 both available for a paralleled V1 type 1st gain stage.

I did play it that way for some time with both 5879 & 5654 paralleled but after some time I decided I liked the tone of one of those at a time more than them paralleled. I thought the 5654 sounded close to as good as the 5879, FWIW.

Just offering my thoughts on that experiment. Bottom line is the paralleling added a little oomph but not enough good musical tone to make it worthwhile.

Ciao Jeff

Thanks for the answer

my interest Is about to have enough signal to be able to drive without excessive loss the TMB ToneStack

I have a lot of those small little tubes and the idea Is to use 3 of them paralleled, so no other kind of tube in parallel for tone variations

Thanks again

Franco

This is pretty much how I did it with paralleled pentodes on the TOS.

With respect, Tubenit

Thanks again

So your choice will be a direct junction of the two pentodes without the use of mixing resistor

no mixing resistors = no signal drop, that is what I prefer
