Fender Rivera era Deluxe II input jack questions
« on: May 11, 2022, 12:32:22 pm »
Hi all! Hope you dont mind a couple of questions. The #1 input jack failed on my early '80s Fender Deluxe II and when searching it took me to this forum and a suggestion that said that the replacement would be a Switchcraft 13E, but I believe that was for a different Rivera era model. I bought one anyway for my Deluxe II and tried it... When removing the old jack I saw it had 5 solder tabs and the 13E only had four... it seems that the 5th tab on the original went to one of the small shorting legs that is missing on the new jack. I put it in anyway and it seems to work fine, except that input #2 is no longer attenuated... BUT, I'm not sure it ever was attenuated!... my friend has a Deluxe II and his input #2 is clearly attenuated... so I rigged my old jack to temporarily work, put it back in, and still input #2 sounds the same as input #1 (although maybe I hear a slight attenuation on the clean channel, but it seem very slight)...

So the questions are: Is there another new switch out there that is correct for my amp?... and secondly, am I mistaken that there is something wrong that input #2 is not attenuated or maybe some amps were built where both inputs sound the same?... Sorry for the long note, just wondering if I messed something up and can I get away with using the 13E or is there something better... thanks!

The Switchcraft 13E cannot be used to properly replace the input jack in your amp.

When wired correctly your amp will have full signal on jack 1 and attenuated signal on jack 2.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Thank you. So you put a picture of the Switchcraft 13E in your post above, which I have... Im assuming that youre saying the 13E will work as a replacement? Thanks!

No !
Where do you read that ?
I post both shematics you can see Switchraft  can't do the job.

Or you can't read shematic ?

Its already in the amp, so dont want to open it up again, but I fixed it with solder and also wrapped it with insulated wire to keep tension on the broken prong.... it will probably last... if not, the Switchcraft 13E although missing one solder tab and one shorting arm did seem to work fine... in case the original fails

Yes in the futur, you can mod the input jacks wiring to use almost any kind of jack.
