Where to use shielded wire in OR120 clone
« on: August 28, 2022, 01:30:48 pm »
I am building an Orange OR120 clone with PPIMV (i.e., Weber o6100 kit) and am trying to understand where in the circuit I should use shielded wire.

I have read that the main places to use shielded wire are connections from pots to v1a and v2a, as well as, to/from PPIMV (if present, as it is in my build). However, I have been looking at 70s OR120 gutshots and am noticing (what appears to be?) shielded wire to/from/between most or all pots (see attached). Is this overkill? Or is there something about this particular circuit that calls for shielded wire in more places? Thanks!

i use shielded wire on all preamp tube grid connections (especially important on first stage where there's relatively small signal). one end of the shield grounded (the end by the input jack(s)/pots is the easiest. the other end (i use the gibson pickup-style shielded wire because i got a while spool of it from my dad) covered in heat shrink. i also attach the grid resistors directly to the tube socket so the heat shrink goes right up to the resistor body
