Am I the only one having trouble finding reliable reverb tanks?
« on: November 19, 2022, 06:47:18 pm »
The Accutronics tank I put in an AB763 tank I made someone a few years ago failed. So I bought an new Accutronics unit. It worked fine, and I set the amp aside for a few months while the customer was in Europe. Anticipating his return, I pulled it out for testing. Nothing but loud 60 cycle hum. Tracked it down to the tank, so I ordered a replacement. This time a MOD. The new tank was DOA. Same behavior. I scoped it and it wasn't passing signal to its output jack. I pulled the tank off a nearby 68 Pro Reverb and it sounded great on my amp. Just to triple check, I tried the MOD tank on the PR. Same bad behavior.

Does anyone have any suggestions for finding well made tanks? Are the Revisit ones good? Who makes them? Thanks in advance.

Watch Ebay.com and Reverb.com for used or NOS USA made tanks, that's what I do.

Also, I have used Hammond organ reverb tanks as well, but they are medium decay, so they tend to sound a bit "thinner" with guitar than long decay tanks.

FWIW, be aware that many vintage pans will have impedances that don't match the Fender reverb circuit.  However, you can take springs from vintage tanks of any impedance and swap them for modern springs.

I made a video using my 6G15 reverb to compare two modern pans (one long and one short decay), a vintage pan, and a modern pan with vintage springs, should anyone be interested: https://youtu.be/QePZQz1u9dg
