Need a reverb tank for a Carvin Vintage 50 all tube combo amp
« on: December 12, 2022, 01:50:58 pm »
Looks like Carvin had reverb tanks built to their own specs. Searching the net this number came up :  9GB2C1B. I tried calling Carvin, that was a waste of time. The tank that is in there is for a solid state 4EB and does not work very well. I tried all the tanks I have in stock 4AB, 4EB, 4DB, 4FB all did not work very well. Does anyone know where to get that tank? I wonder what the specs would be. Thanks in advance for any input.

Way back when I had Carvin MTS3200 in sad shape without a tank. To remedy, (as I didn't want to pay $70USD for a tank), I used a 12AT7 for V4 (reverb driver & recovery) and an F type tank (Ampeg replacement) with the results that it worked well enough. Link below on my experience - Reply 7.

It may be an option for yours if the V50 reverb circuit is similar to the MT3200.

I have a pair of the MTS3200; a head and combo in pristine condition, and I'll be in same situation for spares that you're in if one of mine fails. I may order a pair just for a rainy day.
