Sluckey's SVK anyone?
« on: July 11, 2023, 03:21:54 am »
Hi there

A while ago Sluckey has posted the docs for a small vibro king amp. There were some responses and I think people were building it? How did that turn out eventually? Good sound? Noise level of the reverb in front of the rest of the circuit?

thanks!

Silvergun was building it but then got busy with life. No updates since May.

A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Steve, I have a Hammond 125B OT in my stash. You reckon it’s ok to use that as reverb transformer in the SVK? It’s a PushPull though, but maybe with half the primary winding or even full without CT?

I would not use that for the reverb OT.

I don't think I would.
Some time ago Hammond began offering the 125 series in SE- specific models.  Before that, the regular 125 series were sometimes used for SE wiring, by selecting appropriate taps.  I used a 125E in a 6V6 SE amp and it worked.  I later got one of the Doberman/Heyboer SE transformers and it was way better.
Don't know if hammond still publishes SE connection data for the regular 125 series.
So I would say it can, but wouldn't be the best option.

I would just use a Fender Champ OT.

Thanks.. just wondering. I bought it as a spare for a low watt JTM build a few years ago
There is also a dedicated OT for the reverb part of the vibro king available. But the champ thing will serve the same purpose I guess. The price on both is very similar

Then that's the one I would buy.
