Importing images into DiYLC

I mentioned this in another thread. So, I thought I'd try it and see how it works.

It is very easy. I took the Fender layout for the 6G6-B and cut out the board, saving it as a .JPG.

I imported the image into DiYLC and sized it to 10.25" x 3.125" (the image has corners that you can pull to resize it).

Then I placed eyelets (blue) and holes (red) on top of the image. Next, I started adding components.

I'm halfway through and it's taken about 45 minutes to get this far.

I do not know how closely Fender's layout drawings match the actual, physical boards, but my layout will be a very close duplicate of the Fender layout drawing.

When I'm done I'll delete the JPG image.

I just thought I'd share this quick and easy way to make Fender layouts in DiYLC!

I am always sorry for those who face a layout problem and moan and whine: "Woe is me! I can't find a software to do this FOR me!!" Back in the old days when we had to lay-out dinosaur traps we had nothing but hairy knuckles and a stick in the sand. As you say, when you sit down to DO it, it can go quicker than a deinonychus. And when you draw a plan that way, your brain learns what connects to what. Yes, someday AI will take that job, but that day is not here.

For me, I find that drawing the turret board layout, adding components, and labelling connections reveals errors.   I'm pretty good with schematics, but translating them to "efficient" physical layouts is not that easy.

So yeah, I admire what Doug, Sluckey, you and many others have brought to the table in this forum.

Thanks for moving this Doug. I should have posted it here in the first place. 

Fender took the extra time to provide both schematics and layouts when others didn't.

It drives home the fact there are two separate but totally connected aspects of amp design: designing the electrical circuit, and designing the physical execution of that circuit. Each requires a different set of skills and a different mind set.

Electrical Engineers can be a snooty bunch, Mechanical Engineers are kinda laid-back, Computer engineers are out-there
us poor field Engineers are stuck with the results

shooter, I see field engineers as being "real world" engineers who deal with other peoples' "ideas."  It reminds me of when I built sets for tv and stage. Converting grandiose designs into real, practical, and within-budget sets that were safe for actors to act in was never easy.

yep, we all went to the same schools, guys like me just jumped into the real world when the rest of the classes were , English, Lit, African Studies...
we keep the expensive stuff, to design spec's, working, and all the operators n management placated, they send us money, everyone's happy
