EL84 LarMar
« on: February 28, 2024, 08:32:26 am »
Looks like I will be building an EL84 PP amp for a friend, he wasn't keen on the SE breakup of another amp I had built previously with a similar front-end that we thought might fit the bill.

It will be fairly close to a Blues Jr except with tube reverb; TMB Fender TS & LTPI EL84 output.

I was wondering if anyone has added are LarMar MV to something this size/tube-set?  Great? Not worth it?

One of his rigs is a BLJr that he uses with a simple L-pad attenuator.

So we are going for low volume & the LarMar came to mind. I have a BLJr myself & am pretty unimpressed with the stock MV.

There are a number of Blues Jr. conversion ideas that may be useful to your thinking here:

Blues Jr to HoSo56 (el34world.com)

You can add the LarMar. Whether you will like it or not, I can't say. I put MV in just about everything I build and never like them, but I add them anyway because sometimes they can be useful.

Thank you Tubenit, I will do some digging.

"sometimes they can be useful" about sums it up for me as well. I will probably temp it in to try it before drilling holes.

I put MV's in almost everything I build and do like them.  The beauty of this is you don't have to use them if you don't like the tone.

Right, if you don't like it, don't use it  !
