Reverb mounting and connections

I have an Accutronic reverb tank, 9AB2C1B in an Allen Old Flame head, chassis hanging from the top like Fender heads. I believe this is a medium delay tank, good enough for me, not doing Dick Dale. My question is I'm reading the OUTPUT on the tank should be as far away from the HV PT as possible, this requires the tank's connections to be in the front of the head, hard to reach. I had the tank mounted with the OUTPUT under the HV PT, didn't notice much hum but since the chassis is out should I reverse the tank with OUTPUT on opposite side of HV PT?
Second, I connected the tank's OUTPUT to the chassis INPUT, tank's INPUT to the chassis OUTPUT and no reverb. Reversing the connections, output to output, input to input, I get reverb..? Was I connecting the tank wrong..? What is the proper connections from tank to chassis, do I have an issue with my tank?

The labeling on Fender amp backplates is confusing, seems simple but not really well thought out.

I don't know if Allen followed suit, but I mentally add "to" to the label to try & keep it straight coming out of the amp, (ie; "to Reverb Input" "to Reverb Output"), but sometimes still get it wrong.

Sounds like your tank is fine & things were confused by the labels. "Send" & "Return" would be better but probably not part of the vocabulary in the 60's.

I have also taken to adding a small square of red electrical tape next to the return jack on the amp, that corresponds to the tank out.


If you don't have hum bleeding in, run with it.

I built a small head & couldn't find ANY position that would reduce the hum to an acceptable level. It ended up becoming a combo so I could mount the tank far enough away to keep things quiet.
