Best Glue for Brass Logo
« on: January 10, 2025, 10:06:15 am »
Have a Gibson GA-40 that lost the "4" from the logo.  Have managed to make a new one but not sure what the best glue would be to attach it.  Hot glue?  Hide glue?  Suggestions?

Thanks!

What's often overlooked is that the best glue won't last long if surfaces aren't properly prepared. The gloss must be removed from tolex and brass letters.
And I'm sure you don't want to lose your letters.

I have a lot of experience in gluing of all kinds.

Also you could cut the tolex with the letters format and glue the letters inside, so it would be like in the same level as the tolex, just an idea, less chance to something grab the corner of the letter and pull it out.

Why not !? the letters would be protected and it would not even appear that the tolex was worked to the letters fit in,
i dont think you got the idea.

Unless the brass is way thinner than the tolex, if both are same or about same thickness, then it would work.

Why not cut the tolex?
It would take too long to explain why, even though it seems obvious to me.

You'll see if the author likes your idea.

I have found E6000 is really good for gluing a lot of different things, including metal. But whatever you consider, if you've got spare bits of that metal (maybe leftover from making that 4?) and a scrap of similar tolex, you can test out what works best beforehand.
