DC to AC Inverter
« on: September 05, 2026, 02:09:04 pm »
I want to construct or buy a simple DC (9 or 12 Volts) to AC (120 VAC) to power a small water pump on a fountain. Want to place the fountain in an area that lacks any nearby AC outlets. Have been looking online and have not been able to find what I am looking for. Could I just reverse say a 9VDC power supply? Any ideas? Thanks, Dan

You can't just reverse a power supply. But Amazon or WalMart have plenty if small inverters...

been using these folk for 20 years with my solar array, bit overkill for your needs although i did find a good deal there on a 100W panel n charge controller to do basically what you're doing, I have a 55gal water tank n 12vdc pump for watering the garden.

Thanks Shooter, I'll check it out. I have a ton of components (diodes, resistors, IC, transistors, vero board) from my pedal building stash and would like to find a schematic to do a DIY inverter. Didn't find anything online yet but will keep looking.

how many amps does your pump draw?  you can pick up a 700-1kW invertor far cheaper than building one, even better buy a 12VDC pump n ya don't need an invertor, just a solar panel n a charge controller, that's how I did my setup.

It's a small fountain that's on my front porch so a solar panel would not work. Have been looking into inexpensive battery powered pumps and I think that would be the way to go.
