amp day from hell
« on: March 02, 2009, 12:45:06 pm »
man o man, I had an amp day from hell.  We had a gig sat night, I thought it would be best that I use the 50watter as the room was a bit big, and we weren't going to mike it.  However I needed to do a bit of fixing first (rip out a circuit that was causing hum, swap to a nicer reverb tank).  So I did the fixes, plugged her in, and the hum was louder!  Grumble grumble.  So I figure what the hey, the drummer drowns it out anyways.  But then I started to play it and ghost notes were popping up when playing around the G on the 4th string. Sounded like crapola. Grrr.

OK, so I put that aside, and thought I would use the 20 watter - but would it be loud enough.  So I plugged her in and cranked her on full.  Not bad, I might need to use an extension cab.  Then she started to fartout and on hard chords die.  Now things were not looking to good.

1/2 hr to sound check. Called up a buddy who has one of my heads, drove across town to pick it up.  Got back home, picked up the 50w combo - figured I would use it as a cab.  Made sure to toss in , my speaker extenion cable.

Got to the gig.  Couldn't find the extension cable for the life of me.  Drove back home, still coulnd't find it.  Back to the gig, still not there  - arrggh!

Ended up using the 50watter with the ghost note - drummer drowned it out anyway.

Gig ended up being fun.

I think I'll by a solid state amp.   :'(

just kidding...

Sooooo, drummers do have a purpose......however small it might be! ::)

You will laugh about this....in a year or two!  BTW, we are laughing about it now!  Hang in there buddy!
Jim

ps, next time say the amps were built by GroundhogKen...  He's a keylord player, they are used to abuse!

My religion? I'm a Cathode Follower!
Can we have everything louder than everything else?
