Derek Trucks solo on Anyday with his wife Susan Tedeshi
« on: May 20, 2009, 05:44:44 am »

This dude just keeps getting better if thats possible just such a talent. Here he's soloing on Anyday, great band got the Allman bros type groove going on, excellent drummer. Look at his picking technique too, particular only to Derek, I don't recall seeing anyone else picking with they're pointer finger (in both up and down strokes I think). Great tone as always, looks like he's still using the blackface type amp I'm pretty sure, sure sounds good. Anyway, check it out:

Here's a bonus clip, same concert with Derek's band as well, Little by Little Derek burns pretty good at the end of this one, Susan ain't so bad her damn self either (darn sure better to look at than Derek  ;) I'd skydive into a berry patch to be her hubby haha ) that guitar she plays I've seen her with it quite a few times, looks like a D'aquisto or something with that headstock, sure sounds good.

But wait, if you call now we'll throw in this clip of Derek at 12!  :o (a 60.00 value!  ;D ) He comes in a little later in the clip after the big hair dude is done fooling around:

I have those DVDs.  That no-slide solo on Anyday is the most smoking, jaw-dropping, chicken skin musical thing I have yet to see.

I think I read a while back that his Super Reverb is modded.  It sounds like it.
I will be swift.  And merciful.

Yeah, you don't see him put the slide down often, I must admit I was shocked by that lead too, I was like dang the cat can just flat do it. I've heard he likes to use Pyle drivers in his amps to get the breakup. Doug might even know something about them as I recall, I could be wrong, I know he did some stuff for Dicky, but from what I understand Derek was around the Alman bro's band a lot (uncle Butch being in it). His amps definitely sound pushed to say the least. :D

Man, I loved that version of "Little by Little".  Great playing by both of them and the song just had a super vibe to it.

When I first heard about Susan Tedeschi was when she opened up for Johnny Winter umpteen yrs ago in Ft.Worth. Didn't hava clue as to who she was. I think she does great vocals and is a decent guitarist to boot.

I think Doug actually built an amp for Derek at one point, IIRC

with respect, Tubenit

Back when I did work for Allmans, Warren, etc, Derek was always at their shows and played.
They always had an amp set up of him to come out and sit in.

I tech'd for Derek at a Bluefest one time.
All I had to do was get ready to hand him another guitar or swap out an amp if it started on fire.

At that time he was using his usual SG and an old Blackface super reverb that was so beat to death.
The sound was fat and smooth because the amp was in need of a cap job and other things.
It was low on power and kind of mushy sounding.
I don't remamber what speakers, I think they were stock.

He may still be using the same amp in that same condition, hard to say.

Susan did a great job with her solo's on that second clip
