I'm Repairing a SS fender Bass Practice amp
« on: February 26, 2010, 10:27:23 pm »
Got a SS Fender Practice amp in where they let the nut come off the input jack and kept using it until the jack contacts broke loose from the board. I think the jack is still OK because when I pushed it back down in place I got continuity with my meter from ground and hot to the board traces---so I think that I can just resolder the joints and it will be OK. I just haven't soldered very few boards and kind of skidish about it because I know it wouldn't take much to distroy the board. Any pointers before I re-solder the joints. I plan to borrow the nut off the headphone jack (they don't use) and put it on the input jack. It's a plastic jack with metal contacts. Plate

Well I was hoping someone would chime in about suggestions on doing a resolder to the board but in the absense of any comment I hit up my hospital maint tech friend and he said he would suggest slightly scraping the traces around the jack terms come out on the oppisite side of the board to expose a little metal/copper around the joint and then resolder with about 30 watt pencel iron. So I got some marching order to go by and will do the job first chance I get. Plate

Sounds like you did the right thing. I have re-soldered or replaced lots of those plastic jacks.
