tube cooling
« on: September 01, 2010, 09:24:19 am »
If I use a small fan to pull air across my tubes how close can I put them together (3 tubes 9 pin)?  I know what it says in the data sheet and I don't have that much room.  I believe that is for natural convection cooling.  Oh that brings up another question if you take a tube and stick it in another metal tube how the heck does it keep from burning up?

I am contemplating building a tube operated overdrive pedal.  It will be built in an old Akai tube Shred-O-Matic foot pedal.  That thing was never any good so it was a pleasure tearing it apart.  LOL  It sounded more like fingernails on a chalk board instead of distortion. I think the tube in it only had 1/2 of the filament lit so you thought it was a tube but really it was diode clipping.

I think once you get to three tubes you need to either go half outside the box (electro harmonix) or go 1U rackspace. What desing would possibly need 6 triode stages?

That last sentence sounds confrontational where it should just express curiosity.

No problem, it is actually the preamp section of the TOS with 1 triode as a buffer for the output.

So it is 4 triode stages and one pentode.

The more I try to make this work the more I realize you are right it just "ain't gonna fit"  Different enclosure with foot switch is the way I'm leaning now.
