Title: Silverface Super Reverb troubles
Post by: TubeGeek on March 29, 2014, 01:43:50 pm: I have a mint silverface super reverb in for service and I can't even remove the chassis from the cabinet. :cussing:

What's happening is there is a steel or aluminum plate that is stapled to the inside of the top of the cabinet and that has come loose. If shine a flashlight to see what is preventing the chassis from sliding out as normal, I can see the staples have actually come loose and are preventing the chassis from sliding out. It looks like I am not the only one who has tried to remove the chassis before as the power transformer bolts are loose, I am assuming from someone else trying to pry it out. To top it off, it also looks like the shield plate has been bent and is also blocking the chassis from coming out. :BangHead:

I have tried everything with no success.

If I could remove the speaker baffle, then I may be in luck but the baffle is glued in. :cussing:

Has anyone run into this problem before?

How the heck am I supposed to remove the chassis now? :w2: :help: :dontknow:

Any ideas?

Post by: sluckey on March 29, 2014, 01:57:48 pm: I would remove the speakers to lighten the load. Remove the chassis straps, screws, and nuts, and tubes. Then turn the cab upside down. Use thin putty knives (not the plastic ones) to slip between the chassis and the shield plate. You may need several different widths on the putty knives. Try to flatten/smooth out the bent plate. Then just keep wiggling, pushing, pulling, etc., until; it begins to move. You will need a lot of patience. Don't drink beer while doing this! Good luck.

Mine was very very heavy, 180 watts amp .

I used to just slide in a very thin metal paint scraper and push the metal shield back up
Just go side to side and pull back

You want to get the scraper under the metal sheet to push it up out of the way.

Most of people don't know or don't think to spatula . Short spatula is like a scrapper

For this issue it do the same job but ( long ) spatula is longer than scraper and may work better .

Scraper could be too short . If you have to buy something you'd better go with spatula.

You can use a piece of steel , aluminium , copper too . All you can find in hardware or hobby shop .

Al those are not scraper :laugh:
