Where can I order a transformer with the following specs...
« on: October 05, 2010, 05:23:40 pm »
I'd like to know if anyone can help me finding a place where I can order a transformer with a 180V-0-180v high voltage tap, 6,3V tap for heaters, 5v tap for rectification and 250ma current handling.

Thanks

Unknown. What are you building with that? That low a voltage and that high a current handling smells class A something with 4 power tubes to me.
Hammond will make one for you.Not that expensive at all.

Is this close enough...

Hammond 263CX I think they are about $60 retail.
116VA
sec. 180-0-180, DC ma 250,
Fil. #1(rectifier) 5.0v @ 3a ct

No 6.3V, but a filament transformer is pretty small (think fender choke size).
A 4A 6.3V from Hammond is like $12, so your total is about $80 with shipping
perhaps?

That is all I can think of, other than calling Heyboer and saying "I need a transformer
that has..."   Hrmmm, for a single from Heyboer, the two trannies from Hammond will
probably be cheaper, unless you want 10 or more of them.

Just my $0.02.

Hi guys, thanks for the answers...

Phsyconoodler, it will be used on a two 6v6s, push-pull class A output stage (I'm ordering a high current handling in case I end up going with 4 output tube stage). Not sure what the pre amp will be yet, just messing around with ideas, until I get something I like.

Well I had looked at the 263cx and what made me backup was the lack of a 6.3v tap, but I didn't even remember I could order a separate 6.3v transformer, I guess I might just do that.

I've also looked at edcor, but couldn't find what I wanted, although I know they make them, but it would have to be a custom order, just like heyboer.

Thanks guys

Try Edcor

Edcor = American made.

Edcor charges a 1x fee for a custom build... but after that if you need even just one more with those specs in the future, that custom build fee is history.

No 6.3V

You can most of the time pick instead a 300-series with filament windings, a larger core sized for 50 Hz and world voltages (100 to 240V pri). But alas not here...

no 5V sec. request they wind it with one.

probably drive the cost up 5-10$ with the additional winding + the 40$ design and setup fee.

Two 6V6 250V 10K can run Class A, or so close that who cares? Plate current rise is only 10%; that's far closer to A than to B.

180VAC with bottle rectifier will be much less than 250VDC. If you double-up the SE 180V condition, 11K load, you get like 4 Watts output. Seems like a lot of trouble for four watts. It may be easier to run 280V 20K load, get 7 Watts of pure-A output.
