Having went through Merlins pre amp book I think I will just go with the bandmaster stack for now.
Thanks Bill

What amp?  Usually a resistor is in the stack for mid.  There are many mods for this.  I like 2.  One is simply a 3 position switch with different resistors and and caps.  Over at metro they call it a 3 in 1.  It works great.  Lately I have been installing a 10kl mini pot on the bottom of the chassis fro a mid control.  Not really a 2 tone job, but it is a very nice addition.

Baxandall or Blonde Fender, assuming you like clean tones - and you must, given that it is for the clean channel.

My first guess would be the "James", a variation of the Baxandall.

There are several useful links on tone stacks under "Miscellaneous" in the References sticky, second post.  If anyone has more suggestions, please let me know.

Cheers,
Chip

We have proven once again no plan survives contact with the enemy, or in this case, with the amp.

+1 for the James, just because you have indirect control of midrange by way of the Treble and Bass settings.

James looks good with its ( -7db) its on par with the marshall tone stack for losses, which will help it to match with the other channel . I was also thinking of trying the bone ray tone stack also but will save that for later .
Thanks guys

At the risk of dis'ing this forum, Duncan Amps has a tone calculator, that shows various standard layouts for VTB, including the Jameson,  It may give you an idea on what components you might want to try.  Its always cheaper to do the design on paper than in the field.

I vote for the James as it historically been popular in the hi-fi design (pure hearsay)
