Who here rides?
« on: August 05, 2011, 02:59:18 pm »
Motorcycles that is.  I have a 96 HD FLHTP I bought slightly used in late 96.  That was back when Harley had the 2 year wait list.  My bike use to be a Homewood Il. police bike.

My active bike is a '59 H-D DuoGlide.  It cranks good (kickstart, only) and runs good.  However, it's taking a toll on my right knee.  So, I'm in the process of planning the rebuild on my '76 H-D ElectraGlide, that I totaled in '04.  It's got a pushbutton, and that never bothered my knee, in the past.  It's the one in my avatar.

I love those old school bikes! :worthy1:  The reason I ride a Harley is because of the impressions that my Dad's 67 FLH left on me.  Wish he would have kept that one.

I sold a completely stock '65, back about 20 years ago.  It had a kickstart and electric, and cranked very easy with the kickstart.  It just didn't have the character that the '59 has, so I let it go.  Don't miss it one bit.  I bought the '76 brand new, and brought it home on my birthday in January.  28°F.  Sometimes, we do foolish things.  It has been a good one.

Rode mine 96 home, for the first time, under similar circumstance, it was cold.  For that first 5 years, if there was no snow on the roads and none in the forcast, I was riding, no matter the temperature.  I figured snowmobilers can do it...

I have two Harleys,  a '72 FLH that is my main ride that I've had since '96, and a '66 XLCH, stock with magneto (kick-only) ignition, and it shifts on the right-side.  I bought the sportster as a basket case in '97.

Motorcycles is my main hobby. Actually it´s more than a hobby, I travel a lot on a motorcycles with my wife. I ride a BMW K75RT and my wife rides Yamaha FJ 1200. I have had many BMW´s and and used to restore BMW´s and Brit bikes. Also had two Harley's, one was a 750 Flathead from 1931 with a suicide clutch, tank shift and the works, the other a 1990 Ex-Police Electra Glide.
Cheers

Think I've wound down on the travel.  Covered quite a bit of the U.S., starting not long after I got our of the Army in '74.  Haven't restored anything in awhile.  Most of the old stuff that I have left belongs to me.  It's easier to restore, when someone else is paying.  My stuff just sits, or is in many pieces.  The '59 is always ready when I am.  Flatheads are about all I care to tinker on, these days.

This is my main ride....  Only 150cc.   Goes about 65MPH (103KPH) with my heft upon it.  I got into scooters and small displacement bikes when I lived in Europe and later in Japan. This one is only a few years old and I went with a British Mod theme on this one. This Photo is 2 years old so I've since added more junk to make it more 60's MOD. I've also got a 1964 Vespa that I restored, and had a 1980 Bajaj Chetak (Indian Built Vespa Sprint) but sold that a few months back.

Don't let the small size fool you, I'm a member of motorcycle clubs that I ride with and I keep up.

Got my first and only motorcycle 4 years ago.  1983 Yamaha xz550rk.  It was not runnning when I got it, and has been a lot of work that kept me away from amp projects. This is me and the Vision in northeastern Oregon this summer

Bassmanster, those fenders are madness.   :icon_biggrin:

I ride a Nishiki Alien, the Cro-mo one, white with the purple tint. I had to give up the Yeti
frame to finish paying for one of my semesters when I was in EE. Ohhh that was painful to
sell.

I will trade any two amps for a 125CC hardknock bobber.

I will trade all my amps and two handmade custom guitars for a HD Nightster.

Nashbar mustache bars.  Good for climbing and driving; not so good for cruising.

Fenders:  I don't want to clean my bike.

Fenders:  I don't want to clean my bike.

When I was in grammar school, I road my bike a lot, great fun and a way to get places.

One day I got the bright idea that my bike would look really "cool" _IF_ I took off the fenders.     :think1:

So I did, took them off and threw them away and it was way cool looking, in a little boys eyes any way.

_Until_  the first time I got caught in the rain, cold rain.      :w2:              Soaking wet up and down my back and front. The faster I pedaled the weter I got.         :BangHead:         :cussing:

I ride a 95 FLHT and 58 BSA A10.

The BSA, is that a twin cylinder? I heard both cylinders go up and down at the
same time (not opposed) and that made it a bit rough at low rpm. Urban legend?

That's true of all British twins.  Same as a thumper (single), but every stroke is a power stroke.

I'm not certain about this, but I think they had to do that to get displacement > 500cc.  Tough to kick a 600 single.

Japanese bikes have the 180 twins.  Somewhat better for balance, depending on your point of view since you still get high frequency vibes.  Staccato firing though; 1, 2, exhaust, exhaust.

It's all good nowadays though, because they can counterbalance anything.  My Triumph has a 360 crank but is pretty smooth.  In fact, I read they put the counterbalancer a little off so that you feel something.

250 watts @ 36 volts.
Munchkin seat comes off in a jiffy.
Have a couple of thousand miles on it so far.
Motor really comes in handy on the huge hill I have to climb to get to my home.
A penny a mile. Ride it everyday when the weather is nice.

Gas powered-
Used to have a couple of Yamahas- 650cc and 1100cc.
Now I am down to a 50cc scooter around here somewhere.
