Is a 1629 tube usable as audio level meter ?
« on: June 11, 2016, 12:17:39 pm »
I tried a search but I find only schematics where the 1629 is used as a sintony indicator

Datasheet
http://www.mif.pg.gda.pl/homepages/frank/sheets/049/1/1629.pdf

I would like to know if it is usable as an audio level indicator and be happy if someone has a schematic or link to share

Thanks

Franco

Golly. Many-many-many tape recorders used Eye-tubes as recording level indicators.

Bring your audio up to ~~8V peak. Rig a rectifier to get a negative output.

Thanks PRR

can the signal be take at the secondary of the OT ?

Thanks for the 6E5 datasheet

is the 1629 usable following same directives of other magic eyes tubes (when used as audio level meters) ?

Thanks

Franco

p.s.: Strange thing, I've found info about the use of the 1629 as amplifier ...........

Actually, in a tube guitar amp it may be easiest to take signal at the speaker jack.

Rectifier loading is a non-issue at such low impedance.

8V peak in 8 Ohms is only 4 Watts. Most amps exceed that. Bigger amps, put a pot before the rectifier.
