K&K Pure Resonator SB (Spider Bridge)!
« on: July 26, 2016, 11:19:21 am »
I'm happy! Installed the Pickup. It sounds great through a guitar amp, or PA system at a local jam.  Very natural sounding.
I used a different installation from the K&K instructions.  I did not want to put pressure on the rear of the piezzo element to hold the cone in place.  But with the nut on the cone, the piezzo element sat too far from the cone.  The edge of the piezzo element did not contact the cone.  Instead, I used a fender washer.  So the order of assembly is: Bridge > Cone > Nut holding cone only > Fender Washer with edge contacting cone > Layer of Vaseline > Piezzo Element > Nut gently pressing piezzo element to fender washer > Lock Nut
This is a Cortez Spider Bridge Resonator Guitar.  It has no neck stick, so endpin jack installation was possible. I opted for a Switchcraft endpin jack rather than the nylon jack supplied with the PU.
Can't decide about adding Vol / Tone controls.  Will use outboard preamp for now.

No pictures, but:  http://kksound.com/pdf/pureresonatorsb.pdf  @ the last page bottom is an illustration.

I don't like the manufacturer's method of installation.  Because, IMHO, it wrongfully requires the piezzo element to give structural support to the cone/bridge connection.  So my method has the original nut attaching the cone to the bridge as usual.  A fender washer effectively enlarges the diameter of the round piezzo element.
