Wiring in a Power Transformer
« on: January 17, 2019, 12:44:34 am »
Hi
I recently needed a vertical style PT so I got this one

http://www.classictone.net/40-18085.pdf

For a 5f2a build.

I have never used a PT with so many wires.
Which two do I use? I am thinking Black and Brown and White --
But do I need to tie in the Black and white and Brown somehow?

Please help!  :BangHead: :BangHead: and THaNKs!!

what country do you live in? specifically, what's the line voltage were you'll be using the amp?

if you're using a NOS 5Y3GT rectifier, use the two red wires and tie them each to pins 4 & 6 of the rectifier socket then TAPE off both red/white wires INDIVIDUALLY - we don't need them. the red/yellow goes to ground.

if you're using a "russian/chinese/bohemian" or new production 5Y3 or a GZ34/5AR4, use the red/white wires and tie them each to pins 4 and 6 of the rectifier socket then tape both red wires off INDIVIDUALLY - we don't need these. the red/yellow goes to ground.

for 120V:
1) tie the black and brown together - this is the "neutral" lead.
2) tie the black/white and the brown/white together - this is the "hot" lead.

Page two of that pdf clearly shows how to wire the primary.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!
