Fender Pro 5D5 1954 Power Transformer Specs?
« on: February 10, 2025, 12:47:34 pm »
Someone mounted the wrong PT to this amplifier. Having a hard time finding some power transformer info on a 1954 5D5 Fender Brown Cabinet. I have a PT reading 521-0-195 VAC. The amp works and sounds fine with the correct bias of +23vdc. But 521 on the 5U4? NOT!!!! Spookie!

... PT reading 521-0-195 VAC. ...

Sounds like part of the high-voltage secondary is shorted.

The only other explanation would be a different high-voltage secondary tap for each plate of the rectifier, but your photo does not show evidence of multiple B+ taps.

What about this one?

Would Doug have something like 6516? The transformer on here someone just threw on. Dose it look like it has a heater filament tap though? Edit: No.

I assume Mercury Magnetics has wound that PT like a vintage original.  However, I've never encountered a 5D5 Pro, and haven't measured its power transformer.

Since my friend at Mercury magnetics passed away Patrick some years ago I find getting info from them very difficult. My other concern now is hole mount spacing. Just going to go ahead and order it and will report back when it arrives. Thanks much for your help!
