New Eyelet and Turret Lug tool set
« on: August 31, 2026, 02:22:14 pm »
Over the years, I have sold 2 different tools for installing Eyelets and Turret Lugs that I sell.
There are two parts to my tools.
The top tool is meant to go into the chuck of a drill press
The bottom tool is meant to be bolted down to the drill press table

The tools are on my catalog page here.
3/16 inch drill bits are on this page also.
Shop - Tools

Board material, Eyelets and Turret Lugs are on this page
Shop - Board Building

Here's a link on how to use the old tools.
I will keep the new tool info here on the forum.
https://el34world.com/charts/toolhowto.htm

Tool #1 goes way back 25+ years ago and was just a threaded rod set with nuts that you could bolt down to a drill press or whatever way you wanted to mount the tools.
Tool #2 was an attempt to find off the shelf parts that could be assembled into a tool set that would install the Eyelets and Turret Lugs.
The individual parts have gone way up in price and so I designed a new tool.

Tool #3 is a big step up.
I am having the top tool made on a CNC lathe at a machine shop.
It has several features that only a CNC lathe can make.
See the photos below.

The bottom tool is a threaded bolt with a point that gets bolted down to the drill press table.
I am making this tool at my shop, but you can make this tool easily with a drill and a way to put a point on the bolt.
I also include a spring that you can mount on the bottom tool to help press the board material up when you are press terminals.

See both tools below

This is the Top Tool.

It works best installed in a drill press chuck but you can use it manually.
It is made on a Swiss CNC lathe.
It was expensive to have made, but I am keeping the price super low.
Building your own board requires using a tool to flair out the terminals into the board material.

The center section is fatter than the body so it does not get shoved up into the chuck when pressing the terminals.
One end is for the Eyelets I sell and the other end is for the turret lugs I sell.
It most likely will not fit other turret lugs or eyelets unless they are the same dimensions as my terminals.

See post #1 for links to the tool and others items you may need.

This is the bottom tool.

You bolt this down to the table of a drill press.
A 6 inch piece of board material with a 3/16 inch hole works great.
Or you can manually mount it however you like.

You have to align the point of this tool into the exact center of the top tool.
Tighten the tool into the board material with a 15mm gap between the top tool and the bottom tool.
Use the two nuts on the tool to secure it into place so it does not move.

The turret Lug hole end is easiest to align because the pointy bottom tool fits into the round hole.
A 15mm gap between the top and bottom tool is a good place to set your tool.
On my press, I have support below the table to keep it from flexing downward when press terminals.
You do not need very much pressure because terminals are soft brass inside and plated on the outside.

You can screw the spring onto the tool.
It helps push the board material up as you pull the handle on the drill press down.
You don't have to use the spring, but it works great.

See post #1 for links to the tool and others items you may need.

Here's how I set mine up in an old drill press that has the motor removed.
The table has a support to keep it from flexing downward.
Notice that I screwed the spring onto the threaded bolt.
You can set the spring at different heights or not use it.
The board material is a 6 inch piece of the materiel I sell.
I drilled a 3/16 inch hole for the tool.
The two bolts securing the board material to the table will vary depending on the drill press table.

See post #1 for links to the tool and others items you may need.
