Does anyone know of an easy way to remove chassis rivets ? I've got an old Silvertone chassis that I'd like to build something else in, but the sockets are riveted.

Drill through them then crush them with vice grips and push them through-maybe?

Or grind one end off with a dremel

I drill through them. They usually split apart and are fairly easy to remove. Wear saftey goggles!!...they can blow apart too.

If they are ordinary brass rivits I drill them. Usually the rivit starts spinning and won't drill so I use a cordless drill and drill at about 30 degree angle to keep it cutting. Also I am using a 3/16 bit, or 1/8 for smaller rivits so it just drills off the rivit head.
Pop rivits are a different kind of problem and I use a small pin punch, made from a jewlers screwdriver, to knock out the remains of the steel pin before drilling.

I usually use an oversized drill if I can get to them from the inside, drill off just the roll-over and then tap them out.

Isn't it comforting to know you're not alone in this cold, cold, cruel world ? Yes... amps and O'possums are an unbeatable combination.
