Plexi 50 Watt Hot Switch Mod ?'s
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am building two Hoffman 50 watt plexi heads and I thought I would try the hot switch/master volume mod. For those of you that have tried it, I have some questions:

1. How do you like the sound?

2. Can you switch it in and out while the amp is on without detrimental effects?

3. Assuming a yes answer on question #2, could a DPDT relay and a foot pedal be substituted for the toggle switch to bring in the effect while playing?

4. Has anyone added an additional 12AX7 and kept the dual channel setup instead of using the second channel's tube for the mod?

Barry

 Plexi HS

Hey Barry,
I use the mod as standard in my amps with a few modifications and I love the sound.

#2. You can switch it in and out without a problem except the volume does jump dramatically and sometimes jumps into feedback depending on where you are.
#3 Yup, check out:
www.phatamps.com/pages/5/index.htm
I haven't tried the circuit yet, but it is all there. I assume the same issue with volume will be there....

#4 Nope, haven't tried it. I go down to a single input and use the free half of the tube.

Good luck,
Harry
