"Dan Smith" Stratocaster

I've had my 82 Strat since about 1985. I've always really liked the guitar, but only recently learned that the 82's are referred to as the "Dan Smith" Strat. I started looking around the Internet for references and found pretty much the same articles. I'm curious to know what people like and dislike about this axe. Anybody else out there have one?

Don't have one but do you have the original PUPs in it?

What they like is that in 1982, Fender made reissue model strats that were more closely adhering to 50's and 60's details than what had previously come out. As a result, reissue models from 82 to shortly afterwards are fetching good money compared to the rest of the Fender lineup from that era.

I sold a 1982 reissue with a 3-color sunburst and rosewood fretboard a couple years ago on ebay, and it quickly went up to the selling price of ~$1600. I had paid about a grand for it maybe 3 years earlier. If it had been a custom color (like black or some other non-standard, but Fender-issue custom color) or if it were in better shape (it had heavy belt buckle wear, but the scratches didn't go down to bare wood), it would have brought even more money.

It's got the original pickups in it. Everything is original. It's about the only thing I have that hasn't been messed with. The bridge pickup is the X-1, but I don't think it's really hotter than the others. I've had the guitar since I bought it used back around 1985, and I use it all the time, so it's kind of dinged up, but it plays and sounds very good and is a reliable workhorse. I've had to replace the jack, but that's it.
