To pipe or not to pipe
« on: April 14, 2010, 09:20:49 pm »
I just received some salt and pepper grille cloth. I have never wrapped a baffleboard and was wondering how well this stiff cloth will wrap around the board. Should I pipe it or will it bend enough for a clean job?

It will wrap around a board pretty good. Just have to pull it tight enough. The thicker cloth can be a bear to pull tight. Give yourself plenty of extra cloth around the sides to grab onto.

How much gap should I leave between the cabinet and baffleboard for the cloth with and without piping?

With that cloth, I leave almost 3/16".  You can experiment with a little piece of cloth and a snippet of the piping, just dry fit your baffle board and fit the piping and cloth "sandwhich" on either side to check fit.  Trim the baffle as required.

There are a couple of good threads on getting grill cloth tight.  Also check out the thread on piping as well.  Some good tricks.
