Very nice finish, I like the SS faceplate. Did you think about the lettering?

I wounder if there is a way to do some serigraph printing on it and what kind of paint should be used, as I use also SS faceplates on my projects.

 Hi,
Thanks for the comments. I also noticed that the grill looks like a purple in the picture but in the day light it looks like more blue. To produce good MP3s is little bit difficult for me. Firstly I don't own any good recording systems and secondly I can't play so well. Maybe some day if I find a good guitarrist and recording studio I'll post them.

If somebody knows a good and reasonable way to do fine prints on the faceplate I'm interested in that. I don't own any engrave machine which might be a solution for that.
Because of that I don't print any texts on the faceplate. On the back plate I use often text tapes for pratical/informational reasons.

 Hey, Risto;

As usual, your amp build looks great! (If you don't recognize my name it's because you know me under a different one from our emails...about American movies :-)

What about using a decal for a quick-and-dirty label? It's not the perfect solution, but it does work and for someone with a computer and a printer it can produce pretty good results. It's even somewhat durable if you lacquer it.

As for mp3's - send me the amp (I'll get my own mains transformer) and I'll do some for you. :-)

 Hello Rick,
I'm using my nick name here, actually Leevi is the name of our dog (dachshund). I'm sorry but I don't understand exactly what "decal" means. Is that some kind of pressing method? I have pressed separate letters on the faceplate before but the result was not good enough. The letters disappear lightly if you often touch them.

I'm experimenting with iron on transfers on the back of plexi glass. Then spraying the entire back gold. This way the writing is behind the glass to protect it. I should have results this week end. If anyone is interested, I'll post my findings.

sounds like a lot of work to me. I could make you a reversed etched plate in gold plexi with black letters for about $40 on my computer engraving machine. I could include a logo as well if you'k like. Back panels are also not a problem. See this thread for Waynes plate:

Yes, I'm interested in your plexi glass method.
The Waynes plates are great.

A: I have made the cab, the material is 18mm (3/4") pine finsihed with imitation leather, no screws have been used in construction.

 Leevi,
I would need a layout drawing with exact dimensions and hole sizes. Where are you located? What I normally do is take your drawing and produce a paper layout for your final verification of correct alignment to your chassis before I cut the final plate. My email is bnwitt@hotmail.com

 Barry,
I'm sorry, I did't mean that I'll order your faceplate. My interest was directed to this method in general. I'm also waiting for the results from Bluetonene. Besides I'm probably located far away from your place.

 Hey guys,
If I need to do any kind of marking on metal faceplate's I use a little gadget called an Etch-o-matic. The company is called Martronics. Just do a web search. Anything you can produce and print on your computer, you can make a stencil for. The stencil process is similar to PC board etching. Depending on the chemicals you use, you can do clear or black etching a few thousands of an inch deep. You can even do logo's. THe whole starter system is not cheap, but the stuff lasts forever and if you are constantly running to the engraver - it will eventually pay off. THe only recommendation I have is that you do a few test etches before you tackle your polished SS pride and joy! Good luck!
Jim
BTW, something I have also done with this is do a clear etching and fill it with enamel. That way you can do colors - if you protect it.

Great job on the amp Leevi!!!

 Leevi,
well as far as my method, it requires about $35,000 worth of equipment and software but it does produce fine results. I hope you find a good solution wherever you are, as your amps deserve a quality plate.

 Ritchie,
What type of the etch-o-matic devices do you use? The starter kit published on the pages below costs 69,95 USD. Do you think that device is good enough or should it be a more professional model.

 Hey Jim

thats a great gadget indeed! But is it relay that easy? how long did it take you to get good etching? I'm kind of suspicious about all those "perfect easy to use in 3 minute learned" things sold on the internet. Could you post a pic of something you etched, I'l think that would help us to spend these 70 bugs...

Ha! I know what you mean about the too good to be true advertising! It is actually very easy to use. Just practice a few and you will be an expert. However, you need to get the Dura-Film stencil making "Kit" which is $150.00 alone (on sale!!! for the last couple of years....). They have a bare bones starter kit for $199.00, which includes the Dura-film kit and the part marker. THe stencil kit that comes with the $60.00 (or whatever) unit is only good for simple marking. Those stencils are made using a manual typewriter or dot matrix printer. The dura-film unit allows you to do anything that you can make on your computer screen and print out. The only advice I would give with logo's is that this thing does not do shading, so make sure your contrast is very high - basically black or white.

I ran across this unit trying to figure out a way to permanently mark replacement tooling at the company I work for. We put part numbers and our company name and logo on everything. It looks exactly like what you see in their ad - very clear marking. Sorr
