Need help finding a potentiometer
« on: March 13, 2012, 01:46:33 pm »
I've been looking all over trying to find pot's for a late eighties "Fender Champ 12" amp, one of the Red knob series.

It's a mini pot, 16 mm width with a D shaft (.236 diameter). It has PC pins, 10mm (end pin to end pin)

If I have to use a 16mm or close with solder legs that Ok, I'll wire it to the bd.

The main thing is I need the "D shaft", it's a single turn, type F with a CCW "C" swing.

I need two 500KA and two 1MA.

Those red knob Fender Champ pots from Fender are discontinued.
I tried Mouser, DigiKey, no luck with the D shaft.

Any suggestions/

Thanks in advance always,
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

You could grind the shaft down to what you need or if you have the old pot you might be able to swap the shaft out into the new pot?

http://www.darrenriley.com/FenderAmpParts.htm

they bought all of the fender spare parts inventory for all the discontinued products.

they have the 1MEG - 500K you'll have to adapt.

You can make a D shaft on a pot with dremel tool cutting wheel in nothing flat. Very easy to do.

With respect, Tubenit

Thanks all

I thought I could just buy it, ha.

Dummyload, thanks for that site, they have the actual part listed but "discontinued", both the 500K and 1M, they wanted $10 a pot, WoW.

I think LooseChange has the easiest sounding answer, "drill the knob" - put looking at the knob, I'd have to have some kind of clamp set-up to get it straight in the center and a drill press, to be perfect or take a shot. I can hear me saying to the owner you need all new knobs and pots, ha.

EDIT: DRILLING OUT THE KNOB WAS EASIER THAN I THOUGHT, WORKED WELL,

Taking the pot apart is tough, case comes off easy but getting the swing off to exchange would likely break the new pot.

So I think Tubenit's idea of making a D-shaft from a 1/4" solid shaft would be best, now hopefully I can find an extra long shaft, if not I'll have to deal standard 1/4" shaft.
