UNBELIEVABLE? I say NO!
« on: July 16, 2012, 03:17:44 pm »
Oh, Joy!!!

I decided to drop by Construction Junction, a local building/architectural salvage place Sunday, when what did I see on the counter?????

a matched pair of Genelex KT88s in white boxes, a matched pair of Chinese KT88s, about 7 unboxed (probably used)USA made 6550s by various makers, a Telefunken 12AX7 and a couple USA made 5U4Gbs!!!  They were marked $4 each, but I talked them down to $30 bucks for all of them.

I am still in a happy state of shock. The clerk said they mostly put them out for people to make art projects with them.

Don't hate me... I just had to tell somebody!  My wife just doesn't understand why I was so excited.

a matched pair of Genelex KT88s in white boxes,

Don't those go for as much as $450.00 a pair?

You should try to work out some kinda deal with them, if they run into tubes now and then, for them to call you. Or just go by there every now and then?

Brad,

I've seen other audio stuff, occasionally... some giant Klipsch PA corner bass horns (not Klipschhorns or I'd have them now), some old dynaco stuff which I popped on... but never anything like this!

Yeah, people are paying outrageous prices for the Genelex KT88s. Part of me is saying "cash in!" while the other part is saying "build a freekin' Hiwatt or Sunn bass amp!"  I'm conflicted!

I'm betting these came from some poor schmo's estate, and his wife just tossed them in a box with all the other donations.
