6V6 Plexi
« on: December 10, 2014, 05:44:27 am »
This is Mark Huss's version of a 6V6 Plexi. I am posting it because it is mentioned frequently on different amp building sites.

One could use Hoffman's board material and turrets to make this. And then also use Hoffman's Deluxe Reverb PT  (330-0-330)  #041316  and  OT #041318.

With a solid state rectifier, you'd end up with about 462v on 6V6's & probably need to use JJ 6V6's which are rated to 500v. I personally built an amp for someone with 476v on the JJ 6V6's with NO problems.

Another option would be to use Hoffman's 18w PT which has 290-0-290.  IF you used a solid state rectifier with that, then you'd have about 406v on the 6V6's.

I probably would use the 18w PT and 18w OT .......... OR the 18w PT and the DR OT.  I'd rather have 406v on the 6V6 plates (even though the JJ's will hold up to higher voltage).  IF I used the 18w PT, I'd probably use a 1k or 2.2k (2w)  B+ resistor between nodes A to B.   And then a 10k/2w between nodes B to C instead of 22k.  (compare with Mark Huss's schematic)

Also note that one could simply use Hoffman's Plexi 50 board and the 18w PT with DR OT (or 18w OT). You might need to change the B+ rail if you do this.   http://el34world.com/schematics.htm#Hoffman_Plexi_50_

Again, with the Hoffman turret board and schematic, you could use the 18w PT and change the B+ rail dropping resistors as previously mentioned.  With the Hoffman Plexi 50w, I'd probably use  10k/3w between nodes B to C.  And 5k/3w between C to D and D to E (when using 6V6's).

I personally would use Hoffman's Plexi 50 board with an 18w PT and a DR OT to build a 6V6 version.

I probably would simply build this using Doug's values and simply change the dropping resistors on the B+ rail.

With respect, Tubenit
