Sampo Kolkki Blackface reverb mod
« on: August 17, 2015, 07:11:47 am »
Hi folks,

I'm curious to find out if anyone has tried the Sampo Kolkki Reverb mod ,that appears in the 2nd book by Gerald Weber. https://books.google.com.au/books?id=kxtcysXZwRUC&pg=PA39&lpg=PA39&dq=Sampo+Kolkki+reverb&source=bl&ots=FsxnTFSTAu&sig=McH5_xqZT5eAbWnf9D8JKkIoGfA&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0CCMQ6AEwAWoVChMIj4LDrYawxwIVZZ6mCh0eMQkc#v=onepage&q=Sampo%20Kolkki%20reverb&f=false

I use my AB763 (Hoffman board) amp as my main gigging amp , but don't use the Normal channel , I've been considering trying it out, but thought I'd ask here and see if anyone's tried it

regards
Watto

Yes, it works.  Just make sure you use very nice cable.  I do not use it often as I prefer to use both channels of Fender amps, one dry for dirt and the other for wet signals.

You are using the normal channels tone stack and volume to mix the channels.   I much prefer the one wire mod with a A/B box as I still have tweakable verb but I don't lose the channel.

The primary added benefit is gained tone controls for your reverb sound. But I'll bet you'll land on one typical sound and leave it there (unless you do a lot of recording with spring reverb and find different parts benefit from drastically different reverb sounds).

I think you're right. As Ed does I sometimes use the Normal Channel for lead, I've changed the circuit too, I put the 6G8 Twin tone stack in the reverb channel and kept the normal channel stock , I'm also halfway through building a revibe to use with my tweed amps so that can cover all surf music  , I actually prefer a fat lush swampy trem/vibrato and only use reverb as if it's just on so I think I'll just leave the amp be.

It was worth a thought and I was curious to see if anyone had done it , and their result.

thanks for the replies
