hookup for switch
« on: January 29, 2019, 12:12:01 pm »
Hey. I just received a small lot of 3-lug illuminated switches that I wanted to try to use.Can someone confirm that the attached photo is correct? I thought when I purchased them that a lug would be dedicated for 6.3 volts for the bulb but apparently it operates off of the full voltage? Ratings are: 250VAC @ 16A or 120VAC @ 20A. Secondly, given those ratings, is using this also for a standby switch not viable? I have no DC ratings for it. I'm expecting around 420VDC. Would it fry? Thanksssssssssssssss!

I like using those switches for power switches. Makes for a really neat, simple mains wiring. DON'T CONNECT THE LAMP CONTACT TO GROUND. It connects to AC Neutral. Like this...

You can probably use the same switch for a standby switch. Sunn did, but their switches look a bit heftier than that. Give it a try, but don't connect the lamp directly to ground. Use a 220K or 330K or 470K between the switch lug and ground.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Thank you muchly Sluckey! I remembered you used switches similar to that but for some reason I was thinking that yours weren't illuminated. I should have opened your schematic. Thanks!

Be sure you know which switch lug is which. The numbers on my switches are different from your numbers. Very easy to sort out the actual switch contacts with an ohm meter. And the lamp contact will have no continuity to the other contacts.

Ok. I'll remember to confirm that before wiring it. Thanks!
