Evans Amps
« on: September 19, 2024, 12:35:10 pm »
Built by Jim Evan’s back in the day. Leans to the steel guitar players. From the Texarkana/shereveport, La. Area. Any one familiar with them.

Guy asked if I would take a look at one he has. I think of them as solid state amp. He says his is tube. No schematic that I can find.

If you find out what model it is you're probably faced with calling Jim Evans or emailing to see if he would share documentation.  So we assume you're friend wants either a checkout or some repair.

Pretty sure Evans passed away few years ago. I’’ll See if I can find where his files went. I asked the guy who has the amp if any work had ever been done to it he said no. Also it is suppose to be one of the first built. If so it is at least 50 years old. May be nothing more than a cap job. Old dogs, old music, old folks, old amps and old whiskey. It is a great time

Interesting history - https://jaazz.me/2011/01/06/evans-custom-amplifier-review-history/
According to the above - good chance its a hybrid - tube preamp - SS power amp. Jim made amps for ShoBud as well as under the Evans name. ShoBud would have demanded high quality.

I might have seen an amp with an "Evans" logo in a shop in Nashville in the 1990s.  I'm almost certain I saw a pedal steel with the Evans logo in that shop.

You would treat it like any amp in front of you for which there is no schematic:  trace the amp's circuit & draw your own schematic.

There's a huge difference between the modern Evans amps with a Class D output section, and vintage Evans amps form the 1960s & 1970s with an all-tube circuit.
