 ...cylindrical piece in the middle of the pins that lines up the tube to the socket is broken off?

 Nothing wrong with that. I use em' all the time. Just be VERY careful how you install it. It needs to go in the right way. You can usually see where the pin was.

 AES sells slip-on replacement pins. Kind of pricey though if you only need one.

 If you don't have it out much, you could just mark the base, next to pin one with the tip of a knife and line that up with a pencil mark on the chassis, next to it's socket.
The tube dosen't care at all if it has the line up pin, but it sure
picky about having the pins lined up with the socket correctly.

 I always crazy glue them back on.
I break them off all the time.
