Happy Veterans Day
« on: November 11, 2009, 08:03:54 am »
Happy Veterans' Day to any of you guys that served or had family members in the military.

I often joke that when I was a young arrogant kid, it would have done me a world of good to join the army and have my attitude adjusted.

But no joke now that I'm older and have kids--thank you to anyone who has done the bidding of their country and sacrificed to keep us all safe.

Thank you.

Ken

My father who is still living is a vet of WWII, Korean war and VietNam. I'm really proud of him. He's a great guy and I love and respect him. If my life turns out as well as his ........ I will have done superb.

I am grateful for his service and all the other millions of courageous and dedicated men who have served this country with honor!

Best regards and with respect, Tubenit

I should mention that HotBluePlates is serving in the military active duty and is deployed. He is my mentor in amp building & one of the nicest guys you'd ever want to meet.

Thanks HBP! You're a great guy. I appreciate what you're doing for the rest of use.

Best regards, Jeff (Tubenit)

Tubenit, hats off to your dad. I fly my flag on days like this hoping someone like him sees it. They are the very best of us. HotBluePlates (aren't they pretty) I sleep better knowing such knowlege is so well employed.

I know this is late, but I have been busy and just saw it - and you know me, when I gotta say somethin', I gotta say somethin'.

Some people get it....and some people need to get it.  I have the utmost respect and admiration for our men and women in uniform.  I think about this every single time I see someone in uniform, pass a convoy on the road, see a military plane, a navy ship, find out that someone is a vet, etc., etc.  Let's put it in perspective.  I would take a bullet without hesitation to protect anyone in my family.  I would gladly give my life so they could live.  If my closest friend was in danger, would I take a bullet for him?  To be honest, my thoughts would go to my family and them losing a father/husband and I could not do it.  These military folks, in their service to our country, have pledged to give their lives without hesitation for ME!  For YOU!  They don't know me!  Yet they would give their life so I can be comfy, build amps, watch tv, drink beer, go out with family, and play my guitar as loud as I want.  They would give their life so my family and I can be safe.  Their family might lose a husband/wife, son/daughter, father/mother...for me.  I don't know about you, but I when I tell them "Thank you so much for your service!" - it seems so inadequate, considering the enormity of the deed.  I just try to make sure every day is Veteran's Day.

Rant over.  I will now go back into my cave and hibernate. :lipsrsealed:

Sorry, I hope nobody thought I was inferring that folks here did not get it!!!  You guys are great!  It's other people that I run into that hate the military, and it really peeves me off.
Sorry.....

Thanks guys!!! I was working on Veterans' Day (wouldn't you know...).

I came to the unit I'm deployed with from a brigade that is part of (the now) 32nd AAMDC [Army Air & Missile Defense Command]. Hooah to the Air Defenders, especially those folks from the Vietnam era.

HotBluePlates (are'nt they pretty) I sleep better knowing such knowlege is so well employed.

Funny... I'm in an intel unit doing stuff with stuff I can't tell you about. Let's just hope I'm doing my stuff well!

No kidding, I got an e-mail for the captain I work for, who was relaying info about a mission recently completed. I have the clearance to know the stuff about the mission, but at that level, if you don't need to know to do your job (even with the right clearance), then you're not allowed to know. He wrote, "... highlight [a mission]. They're really close to this magic guy with the thing." Very descriptive...

It's great to have you with us even when you are working for Uncle HBP !!   Those of us who served at some point understand what it's all about.
I'll never figure this out......

Yeah no joke. Thanks for your kind words HBP.
He never would/could tell me exactly what he did but I know he was in Germany, therefore was probably involved in NATO support defending nuclear cache sites. He mentioned Darmstadt a few times and my research shows no fewer than 10 nike and/or hawk installations within 90 minutes of there.
I bet he would have been around long enough to help usher in the CV systems that went online around '70. Chaparral missile batteries defended by Vulcan cannons... c'mon over speznaz! There's some great utube video of vulcan weapon testing that makes the hair stand up on my neck; first-person accounts of the weapon as it was used on the ground in Vietnam tell how it precipitated the retreat of ~200 NVA within minutes of their ambush though (other than the vulcan) they had every strategic advantage.

Nothing finer than all the Americans that keep our country, and in turn the world, a safer place.   Thanks HBP!

Some of these people's points of view are really askew, to say the least.  Perhaps they're from outer space?

Hopefully there's enough of us saying "thank you for your service" loud enough that you can all hear us!  You are in our prayers that you stay safe keeping us safe.

God Bless - Craig
