  installing pots

kind of a basic 101 question, but....
when you guys install pots do you put a nut and washer on both sides or just the outside and be careful not to overtighten? (i pulled one apart by accidentally overtightening.)

Pots have a sholder that is supposed to rest against the inside of the panel so an inside nut is not necessary.

Definitely! The only exception would be to adjust the length of the shaft if it is a little too long.

the pots i have gotten have one or two (depending on mfr.) little tabs that face forward, so there is a gap between the inside of the pot and the surface. I hope i explained that right. is that what you mean by the shoulder or should those little tabs be bent or snipped? thanks.

The little tabs are there to go into little holes to keep the pot from turning with the shaft if the nut is loose.

Some panels have holes for the tabs to help prevent the pot from rotating. But you can just break them off.

I always drill a small hole on the corresponding side for these tabs, its fast and easy and the hole will be covered by the faceplate. These tabs also helps to not stress the case of the pot when bolting them to the chassis.
