Are Airline Pick Ups a Complete Rip???Off, that is??
« on: September 20, 2010, 06:06:18 pm »
I got some Airline pick ups off of ebay.  I thought they sounded cool.  I heard a clip.  I had to deground the metal covers for a fender super switch.  I understand that the mojo of the originals may well be that they are junk....but this thing looks like a cheap strat pick up in a metal PAF shell filled with wax.  I know the airlines were single coil but I was expecting to find a "little" mojo inside,,,perhaps a wider coil base....or SOMETHING!!!.  I paid 49.99 plus 8 to ship.  I know that is not very expensive but I was hoping for something, at least.

Am I wrong, did I not get ripped off in reality.  Is there really something there?

Or am I one of those people to whom W.C.Fields atttested wast born once every minute?

They were cheap guitars, and one of the easiest ways to save money on a guitar is cheap electronics.  They will have a particular sound, but don't look at them expecting to see Gibson quality.  If it works and you like the sound, well, there you go.

"Godfrey Daniels" "Ah yes my little electron pusher, That's not wax in there, it's co-ag-hulated snake blubber, it's purpose it to soften the ultar-hertz and roll off the bottom end truffles, yes, yes. And today
only, they can be yours for only five hundred and fourty -five dollars....
Sorry I couldn't resist,as I'm a WC fan .....how do they sound in your guitar?  That is pretty much what will determine the value to you......
