Lost my best friend
« on: October 01, 2010, 11:43:32 am »
We just lost our little doggy.  She has been our "only child" for over 13 years and our lives centered around her.  This just kills me.  I hate that dogs dont live till their 90.  I miss her so much.  I am angry, I am hurting, I hate all this.

That's sad, too sad for me to think about.

I like dogs way more than I like people.

My buddy still has a few years left
Don't know how I am going to handle it when he's gone

I know that feeling, my advice is wait a week and go rescue one that is going to be put down at the pound, believe me it was the last thing I wanted to do.....but it worked in helping the healing process and it saved a dogs life.....don't compare to sweep just enjoy the new one

My heartfelt condolences.

It has been over 20 yrs since a dog has owned me and I cannot allow myself the grief that I had went through to happen again.

I've never experienced the unconditional love that I had with Scamp, with the possible exception of my Daughter. (there are days I know she's hated me) I've never had those days with Scamp.

I'll pray tonight for your acceptance of this awful situation and that you receive the courage to be proudly owned by another dog.

I do have this one very happy memory Scamp gave me.

My buddies were over on a beer drinking night, and ole Scamp was there too hanging out. He'd go around the corner of the barn and "take a leak" with anybody going that way. My buddy Bill was laughing on the way back from the barn and commented on how Scamp thought he was a person too. I only needed a second to think about it and said "No Bill, he thinks we're just dogs too"
we laughed about that all night.

I'd love to hear any happy memories you've had with Sweep.

Man I feel for ya.  We lost one of ours 2 years ago and I still see her face every time I walk past where her bed used to be.  I have had to bury 2 horses in the last 2 years also.  It stinks they are like your kids.  Like Ray said it doesn't matter what happened all day and who is mad at you they are always happy to see you when you come home.  Hang in there time sometimes heals.

Thanks guys - I knew there was a few guys on here who have great buddies.  I alternate between thinking she is just going to pounce in, demanding her dinner; to laughing at photos I have of her; to crying my head off.

"No Bill, he thinks we're just dogs too"

Ain't that the truth!

Here are some more pics.

My condolences.I feel your pain.

I lost my dog a couple of years ago and it tore me up more than the loss of some humans I knew!
I haven't the heart to go out and get another dog yet.

I had so many good times with my dog.As I am sure you have countless stories.
The memories for me now are really fun to remember.
He used to love to play fetch so you could tell him to go find a stick.Once when we first moved to the country, unknowingly, he came back with a live snake in jaw!

"No Bill, he thinks we're just dogs too"
No kidding!
They certainly are part of the family.....or um "pack".

Time will heal.

Nothing like a good dog, for sure. And she looks like she was a good one.

Having to have a dog put to sleep is the hardest thing I've ever had to do, and I've had quite a few put to sleep over the years.  Mostly Boxers, which have a fairly short life span, like 8 years average. The current one, number 7, female, is 18 mo. old, with a typical great Boxer personality.

So I can understand the pain....
I'll never figure this out......

My condolences:

Our 14- yr. old Corgi, Max passed away last Mar. He was a good dawg.  Great personality.  I'm glad I got to take him camping several times before he started getting sick.  Humans and dogs have this symbiosis that goes back to prehistoric times.  Sitting w/ your dog, a fire, your beverage of choice and some grub... that's the life and dogs really like it, too.
Earlier in life I had a cat for 16 yrs. and she got so weak from cancer I finally had to have her put to sleep; that was really rough.  It still gets to me.  Take care.

I'm sorry that you lost your buddy.

Do you know how you can test whether your wife or your dog is your best friend?  Lock each one in the car trunk for 3 hours and then see which one is happy to see you when you let her out

Take care,

Chip
