The Schedule 40 GA-5 Bright Switch Question
« on: December 14, 2010, 10:12:54 pm »
Is this how the Bright switch would be hooked up on the The Schedule 40 GA-5 amp. http://www.el34world.com/projects/Schedule40.htm It is not shown in the layout or schematic and says "bright switch that switches a 250P cap across the volume control".

This is how it should look...
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Hey,Shortfuse well I did not put the bright switch in my GA-5 build I,am pretty satisfied with the amp overall. I would be interested in the voltages your amp has, and did you use a EL-84 power tube.

Thanks John t

John I will post voltages when I am done.  You built one in the PVC box a bit ago and you were concerned with heat if I remember correctly.  I bought all the stuff from Doug off the parts list in the library.  So yes Sovtek El84, 12AX7WA & 5V4.  I am not doing it in the PVC enclosure I had a 5 X 8 X 2 chassis sitting around so i decided to build this I am trying to lay it out so it is point to point (another 1st for me).  Good little project so far.  I am leaving room for tone controls later but want to try it as it is in the library layout first.

Shortfuse, My schedule 40/GA-5 build was placed in a champ chassis. I used the layout here at Hoffman amps. Power and output trannys from Hoffman amps as well. My amp got really hot. The voltage was way high on the EL84 power tube. I would have to check my notes to see the actual numbers. The folks here on the forum helped me get the voltages down. I had to bring the screen down and a larger value on the cathode resister. Seems to be ok so far.

Good luck with the build

John T
