1 tube reverb and the TOS
« on: January 11, 2011, 08:19:56 pm »
Alright to I built the TOS and we worked out the problems then I added the 1 tube reverb and I had a problem with hum which we also worked out.  Now I have another issue that I would talk about.  The reverb is very dependent on the volume of the preceding stage as you can understand.  The problem come in if you have set it up on the clean channel the way you like it and decide to step on the OD foot peddle the reverb gets way out of hand.  Now what I was thinking is that instead of injecting the signal at the PI what if we inject the signal after the normal stage but before the OD stage won't that fix this issue?

Looking at the schematic I think that installing the 100k resistor directly after the .01 capacitor coming off of v1b looks like the correct place to me.  What say you?

I also have another question about the 100K resistor.  I noticed that on some designs a 150K or higher resistor is used what does this change do for the reverb?

The insertion point after the channel switching and going into the LTPI works .

Honestly, I have been rather arbitrary on the mixing resistor and used from 100k to 220k. I haven't heard much difference.

With respect, Tubenit

Thank you Tubenit.  I have it set up exactly as you show.  Maybe my situation is different what happens is I play at Blues Jams.  It's not like being in a band.  The Players need to lay back and let one person shine at a time otherwise it would be a train wreck.  So my choices are to not have reverb on when playing support or reaching back and scaling down the Reverb when I kick in OD.  There is a great degree of change in volume from back up to lead especially since we may have as many as 4 guitars on stage at a time.

I'm going to try it where I suggested and see if it works out for me and report back to you all.

I am not sure I am understanding what you are saying so I hope you will be patient with me.

IF you are saying that you want the reverb inserted prior to channel switching and the reverb is going to go thru the OD channel also. I think you may run into problems. And potentially oscillation problems.

I have done every reverb I have done (with LTPI amps) exactly as I drew the schematic and they have all worked to my satisfaction (which I acknowledge is subjective).

IF you are cranking the reverb up on the clean and want it lowered on the OD, then I definitely would NOT put it prior to the OD section because it will only be increased being run thru the OD.

Perhaps I am misunderstanding what you are saying??? And if so, I apologize.

I've played a number of blues jams. They typically have been alot of fun for me.  However, there was never more than two guitarists on stage at a time.

With resepct, Tubenit
