DIY Tremolo
« on: February 04, 2011, 06:08:14 pm »
Hey all,
I'm getting ready to build a SS tremolo pedal, I found the schem in Kevin O'Connor's "Tonnes of Tone" book. It's the "Wide-Range Tremolo". There's not much to it really. Is anyone familiar, built one of these, or modded it? I prefer to do tube stuff but since the signal is not modified other than volume modulation, I'm okay with SS, JUST THIS ONCE.

I'm not familiar with that one but I rolled my own back in the '70s and put it in a blackface TR/Bassman. It had a much smoother effect than the neon bulb used in the original bf Fenders.

A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

You're a better man than I. I can't seem to get this to work. All I can think of that may be wrong is that I used a .47uF 630V metal poly cap where the schem called for a 470n 63v polyester cap. SS seems impossible for me to troubleshoot. It gets 9v to pin 8, on the NTE 858M opamp. Beyond that I'm stumped.

FWIW: Small Bear has this available:  http://www.smallbearelec.com/Projects/TremBear/TremBear.html
It's a great sounding pedal.  I heard it at a gig I sat in on recently.  The owner of Small Bear was there (we both live in Park Slope, Brooklyn)

I got the pedal to work but it's pretty lame. It only sounds good at a narrow range of settings. Thanks for the link, that looks pretty good. I'm also going to browse the schem library to see if there's something there I can put in the enclosure I already bought.

The heck with it, I found a Boss Tremolo for less than retail. It sounds good. I don't have to make EVERYTHING myself......
